A Priceless Gift
Mr.X , was somehow managing to keep body and soul together on his
meager pension of one hundred and fifty rupees a month, when he
found his eyesight getting weaker and weaker. That's when his eyes
were successfully operated upon in one of the camps organized by
Sankara Nethralaya.
This gave back to this octogenarian more than just his fading vision.
It rekindled in him the confidence that was fast fading with his
clouded vision.
As an expression of his gratitude he put aside a certain amount
of money every month for a whole year. Realizing that availing even
the cheapest means of transport would eat into his savings, this
brave man walked a distance of fifteen kilometers to donate a sum
of one hundred and fifty rupees to Sankara Nethralaya.
A thoughtful action transforms two lives
At the age of twelve, Master Preetam Sridhar, a student
at the Sinalola middle school, Novato California has realized that
small acts of thoughtfulness can lead to hugely rewarding consequences.
This young Samaritan collected a sum of one hundred dollars, which
he sent to Sankara Nethralaya. The money was used to support two
cataract operations. These surgeries have helped transform the lives
of two families.
Death does not severe the ties of the heart
Though the Rao's had visited India on several occasions, little
did they know that this visit would be a life changing experience.
Mrs. Rao had come to Sankara Nethralaya seeking treatment for a
complex vision disorder. On recovery, she returned to the U.S with
a deep sense of gratitude for the institution and talked highly
about excellent treatment she had received to all her friends and
relatives.
Later, when she passed away, her husband and children urged all
those attending her funeral to donate to Sankara Nethralaya instead
of spending the money on flowers.
